Ubisoft Had A Dozen Battle Royale Games In Development, Report Claims

Ubisoft has been struggling. The company cancelled three unannounced titles just last week, with a delay put on Skull and Bones to buy the game more time. Now, a new report from notable insider Tom Henderson’s Insider Gaming has shared an anonymous employee’s remarks that Ubisoft had “at least” a dozen battle royale games in development at one point.
It’s a shocking figure to see the company chasing so many games of one genre, but at the same time, it’s not all that surprising. Ubisoft is desperate for cash. The reason for the aforementioned three titles scrapped in an emergency investor meeting was to cut $215 million in costs, and Ubisoft’s stock has been falling since 2018. Reception hasn’t been great to any of Ubisoft’s latest releases, including Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, which “surprised” Ubisoft with its commercial underperformance.

Not all hope is lost quite yet for the French gaming giant. It still has Assassin’s Creed Mirage to release later this year. With the game aiming to take the franchise back to its roots, it could deliver what many fans have been asking for over the past few years. Additionally, Ubisoft is developing Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, which follows the massive $2 billion success of the latest blockbuster movie entry Avatar: The Way of Water.
