Pokémon Scarlet & Violet’s Tera Types Could Save The Meta

The Terastal phenomenon in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet may provide players with much more strategy than Sword & Shield’s Dynamaxing ever could.
The Pokémon meta has become infamous for power creep and gimmicks that further contribute to this, and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet may finally have a solution. Instead of providing huge power boosts like Dynamax or an almost guaranteed KO like Z-Moves, the new Terastallization phenomenon lets a Pokémon change their type to any single one available in the games. This could introduce a new level of strategy that breathes new life into the series’ stagnant meta.
Terastallization has a bunch of possible uses that could make it a fascinating addition, and it’s likely that its success is one of the things that can make or break Pokémon‘s Gen 9. Steel-types are known for their defensive capabilities, so turning a normally defensive Pokémon into a Steel-type makes it even more useful. Electric-types are only weak to Ground-type moves, but turning into Flying-types would give them an easy counter without needing to use up their held item. Fire-types can’t be inflicted with burns, so a strong physical attacker would no longer need to worry about having their attack stat cut in half. There are so many ways to account for a team’s weaknesses when deciding which Pokémon to Terastallize.
