Juneau, Alaska (KINY) – ADF&G released their annual advisory for commercial and personal use fishing for 2023.
Every year the Alaska Department of Fish and Game releases fishing protocols to remind the public of the proper regulations to fish by.
News of the North spoke to ADF&G about the advisory for information.
The following fishing protocols have been in place, however, Laura Coleman, Groundfish Biologist with ADF&G said there is one new thing to look out for.
“New this year is that fishermen do have to register for the fishery and so that was changed at the Board of Fish meeting that happened in March of last year. That regulation came into action starting in September 25 of last year. They can do that at an Alaska Fish and Game office by filling out a piece of paper.”
Coleman talked about the lingcod season.
“There’s seven different areas for the management of lingcod. So you have IBS, which is Icy Bay Sub District, East Yakutat, Northern Southeast Outside Section, the Central Southeast Outside Section, the Southern Southeast Outer Coast and the Northern Southeast Insights of District and then finally the Southern Southeast Internal Water Sector.
